Meet Rosie, a red 2013 Model S P85, capable of 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and one of the most impactful cars in the acceleration of sustainable transpiration. While not perfect, Rosie has many quarks; that are all made up for when you realize how fast, comfortable, and good the technology is, even compared to the newest rivals in luxury sedans. I’m the 3rd known owner of Rosie and close friends with the previous two owners, so I can say with confidence Rosie’s been well taken care of. I also think the Model S is still the best-looking Tesla, and red is Tesla’s best color.
Unlike combustion cars, EVs are not impacted by miles as much as caring conditions, like frequency of fast charging and weather. Rosie has lived with owners who primarily slow charge at home and live in California; after a decade, Rosie has 86% of the original battery capacity. This means a 100% charge would get you ~218 miles of range, more than enough for daily driving and some longer road trips. Note that EVs never get charged to 100% and live mostly between 40-80% state of charge (SOC), so you will have no issues making it to LA, Tahoe, or embarking on a cross-country road trip in Rosie.
With Tesla’s Supercharger network, you get a car you can truly drive anywhere in North America without concern and enjoy the fun, smooth ride of a luxury electric vehicle. I’ve driven fully electric all over the Pacific Northwest (PNW) and several national parks.
Rosie is one of the first Model Ss built in the Freemont factory and paved the way for Tesla’s meteoric success. After test driving Rosie, you too can experience what makes a fully electric performance Sudan better than most large sedans on the market today.
While Rosie is an older 2013 model S, you might notice the aftermarket T-spot line bumper was replaced last month after I was backed into while supercharging in Marin. This means you’re getting a brand-new bumper and headlights. I initially replaced the bumper because I hated the original nose cone design, as an EV doesn’t require a grill for airflow, and I loved the look we created for the 2016 Model S.
Because it’s a P85 rear-wheel drive vehicle, you get the largest font storage area called the fronk; It can fit two large carry-ons. Having a large amount of storage makes this Model S one of the most particle sedans ever made and gives utility unlike any of the newer Model S’s where, over the years, the fronk keeps shrinking, along with any other sedan with an engine up front.
Over the years, I’ve also made a fair amount of upgrades to keep Rosie modern, upgrading parts to enjoy the latest changes as things improved. In 202, I upgraded from MCU 1 to MCU 2 to avoid the screen failure covered by Tesla, which replaced the entire infotainment screen, so you get a high-resolution display on both the dash and the 17-inch touch screen, along with faster performance with the ability to watch video content (Netflix, Disney , YouTube, etc.) while parked. Rosie’s is also equipped with lifetime connectivity for live traffic streaming of music and video. You don’t have to pay $100 a year to Tesla while owning Rosie.
You might also have noticed the 20-inch T-Sport line wheels because after driving Bay Area roads and having three of my 21-inch Tesla wheels crack, I decided to put wheels on that maintained the performance while handling the lousy road conditions better. By adding a bit more sidewall, you now get better ride comfort and wheels that can survive the terrible CA road network. These wheels are on high performance Pirelli summer tires, so you can enjoy the grip when driving enthusiastically.
I’ve replaced the rear driver door handle and two rear window regulators with newer parts that are unlikely to fail again. The Model S door handles are notorious for failing, but newer designs have helped reduce that, so now three of the four door handles have been repealed with more recent versions. I also replaced the part in the window regulators, a common failure point, with a more reliable metal part from Gerber Motors.
After owning Rosie for seven years, I’m sadly at a point where I need another car and will have to part ways with one of the most fun Teslas ever made. This 2013 Model S paved the way for the high-volume Model 3s that flood the Bay Area’s streets. So, if you’re looking for one of the greatest sedans of all time, this Model S is the best option.
Rosie is in the best condition you could ask for and ready for the next owner to add the next 120k mile, becoming part of the adventure that started the EV revolution. I could say a lot more, but If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
